Bad Haircut

Derek and I are now living on the East Coast and absolutely loving it. We've been here almost a week settling in before Derek starts work on Monday. So we've been driving around getting to know our new area and getting things done around the apartment. We'd also like to get some things taken care of like getting our cars registered here and our Pennsylvania driver's licenses. So this morning we planned on going to the DMV to get them. Derek wanted to get a haircut before starting his new job at Mars Chocolate on Monday. I spotted a cute old-timey barbershop on Main Street and suggested he try it out. I got a text from Derek when he got there saying it might take a while because the barber was a super old man who was taking his time on a guy before Derek. About 45 minutes later I get a call from Derek and the first thing he says is, "Worst Haircut Ever." He sounded so frustrated on the phone and said he wanted to go buy some clippers and buzz his head. I told him to come home and show me first before doing anything. When he walked in the door this is what I saw. P.S. - These pictures don't even do the awfulness of Derek's haircut justice.

At first I didn't think it looked that bad but then he turned to the side and my hands came up over my mouth to cover my gasp. I couldn't believe how horrendous it looked. It didn't look like the barber even touched the top of his head but took an uneven lawn mower to his sides. There were splotchy areas that were deeper than others making it look like he had bald spots. His sideburns were cut really short with a slight curve in them towards the ear. The back of his neck wasn't trimmed up at all. All of that extra hair that grows on guys' necks (Derek calls it his woofers) was still there. Usually he comes home with a straight line on the neck, but not this time.

For all of the time that I've known Derek I've never really seen him mad or even really upset. But today I could tell he was ticked. He went to the bathroom to look in the mirror and he said, "What...the...hell...did he do to me?" I felt so bad for him but at the same time I couldn't help but snicker. So we didn't know what to do with this dilemma. We thought about waiting a couple days for it to grow out a little bit before getting it cut again, Derek really wanted to just buzz his head, I could try and blend it a little better, or we thought about going to another place to get it fixed. We know one person in Mt. Joy so I called her and she recommended we go to this salon that she goes to.

So we decided to try out another shop and see if they could help Derek's poor head. When we walked in the ladies both said, "Oh...My...Gosh!" The stylist asked who Derek went to and she was like "you went to that 90 year old man." Derek felt bad for the guy because he's a super old WWII veteran that was really nice so he didn't want to refuse to pay for his crappy haircut and he didn't want to ask the guy to fix it because he had already done enough damage.

So these are the pictures of Derek's fixed haircut. It's really short and still not perfect, but MUCH better. Derek has a good attitude about all this though. He looks at it as a good ice breaker for his first day on Monday. I still think he's sexy!

I'm glad we can laugh about this now.
